Organization Background in Brief

Chan Myae Myitta Development Association (CMMDA) was legally formed since 2000 by a group of professionals with expertise in wide areas of health, education, and social sectors. At the beginning, the group was organized and working as a cooperative social enterprise under the name of Chan Myae Myitta Cooperative Society (CMMCS), hence it was officially registered at the Ministry of Cooperatives. However, in 2016, it had been reorganized and registered as a Civil Society Organization at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and known as Chan Myae Myitta Development Association.

CMMDA is composed of five members of Board of Directors (BODs), providing strategic guidelines and managing the programs of the Association being implemented by a number of organization staffs who have possessed vast experiences in community mobilization and facilitation of development process through Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA), Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Participatory Learning and Action (PLA), Participatory Action Research (PAR) and PVCA, along with relevant technical skills in respective sectors, such as Livelihoods and Food Security, WASH and other health related areas.

During the past time, CMMDA initially worked with community members mainly through need-based approach; however it has now strategically planned to mobilize the communities for their genuine participation and sustainable development through right-based approach.

In addition to implementing health and social programs through community-based participatory approach, CMMDA also intends to be involved in partnership with alliance organizations, in strengthening the capacity of local civil society organizations (CSOs) and civil society movements (CSMs) in the thematic areas of Health, Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH), Livelihoods, and Humanitarian Support.

Hence, CMMDA has been assigned as Chair-organization of SUN CSA in Myanmar for two consecutive years (2017 and 2018). Currently, CMMDA is successfully implementing WASH and Nutrition projects. CMMDA strongly believed that this implementing experience will enhance the technical and institutional capacity of the organization.

Having officially reformed and registered as a non-profit organization, CMMDA members and staff have reviewed and revised its previous organizational strategic plan through a workshop during the first week of January 2018. A revised strategic plan for five years period (2018 – 2022) has been now drafted as stated in this document.
